Led by the Spirit
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
--- Romans 8:14-16
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
--- John 16:13
6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
--- Galatians 4:6
The apostle Paul writes that the Sons of God are led by the Spirit of God. The Spirit of God leads us by our spirits in our hearts. There are several ways that the Spirit of God leads us with our spirits.

The Inward Witness
The number way God desires to led His children is through the inward witness. The inward witness is a inward knowing. All of the other six ways the Spirit of God leads us is related to the inward witness. What the Spirit directs for us outwardly will bear witness with our inward man the spirit. Jesus was always led by the Spirit of God.
1Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
--- Matthew 4:1
1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
--- Luke 4:1
Jesus was always led by the Spirit. He followed the Spirit in every thing He did. We called to follow the Holy Spirit like He did.
Inward Perception
8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked:
9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,
--- Acts 14:8-9
Paul had an inward witness that the impotent man at Lystra had faith to be healed.
Audible Voice
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make her three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
--- Matthew 17:4-5
God sometimes guide us with an audible voice.
Visions of the Lord
3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
--- Acts 9:3-6
The Spirit of God also leads and guides by visions of the Lord. The Spirit brought Saul into spirit world but He could not see because he was spiritual dead. Because he could not see he only heard the voice of the Lord.
Visions of Angels
1 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and pray to God alway.
3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and sayin unto him, Cornelius.
4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
--- Acts 10:1-6
Confirmation
10 And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.
11 And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.
12 And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.
13 Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.
--- Acts 20:10-13
God often uses prophets or other ministers to confirm what he placing into the heart of His children, through the gifts of the Spirit.
Circumstances
25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
--- Luke 1:25-27, 34-35
The Spirit uses circumstances along with the inward witness.
