2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

The word "course" is the Greek word aion which means age or era of time. The word "world" is kosmos which means the world. The world "prince" is archon which means the leader. The word "power" is the Greek word exousia which means authority or legal rights. The word "worketh" is energeo" from which we get the word energy means activate or to make active. Seeing this Greek definitions we can say this verse this way.

"Wherein in time past ye walked according to the age of this world, according to the leader of the authority of the air, the spirit that now is active in the children of disobedience:"

Satan is the leader and prince of the authority of the air. The air is the atmosphere of the earth. Satan and his cohorts strive to control the atmosphere of the earth that they might so darken the spirit realm surrounding the earth that have total influence in the lives of mankind. By controlling the air the enemy and his cohorts seek to create an spiritual atmosphere   that they control to create a oppressive climate that shape a suppressed and manipulated culture.

• Atmosphere - the mass surrounding the earth

• Climate - the prevailing weather patterns of a region

• Environment - the sum total of the conditions that surround people

• Culture - the shared attitudes, values, desires, and practices that characterize the behavior of a people​

4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.

6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

Another description of Satan is that he is the god of this age. He blinds the minds of them who do not believe through the spirit that works in them. He darkens their minds and blinds their hearts. He is the master manipulator the father of lies and there is no truth in him or his angels. By creating a shroud over the earth through controlling the air they strive to separate men from the life of God. The powers of darkness endeavors to enshroud men in and with fear and doubt. They simply want to control the atmosphere, climate, environment and culture. When Adam ate from the forbidden tree two things happened first Adam and Eve closed the door to spirit realm and opened the door to Satan and his cohorts to gain power and authority in this world.

5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

--- Luke 4:5-6

12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Adam released the ripple effect of sin and death that gave access to the kingdom of Satan to the earth. God gave the  dominion of the earth to Adam and he gave authority in the earth to Satan.  Christ came and destroyed the works of the devil and gave authority to men over Satan. Men no longer have to be ruled over by the power of the enemy which is darkness. Christ came to give man the access to the Kingdom of GOD which rules over all. It was God who gave the earth to men.

19 The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.

16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord's: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

--- Psalms 115:16

​

4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

God gave dominion of the earth to man, but men have given authority Satan and his cohorts to rule through sin, darkness, and death. Christ came and reversed the curse and now the believer has authority over all the power of the enemy. We are no longer under their authority or dominion. The believers have the authority to change atmospheres, climates, cultures, and environments. It all begins with repentance from dead works and faith toward God. Repentance and faith enables the believer to resist and overcome the ripple effect of Adam's sin. Repentance and faith are key to a believers authority.
