The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

6 And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;

7 And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.

8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

--- Mark 1:6-8

16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

--- Luke 3:16

11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

--- Matthew 3:11

In these three accounts the word "with" is the Greek word en which means in. So John said "I indeed baptize you in water, but He shall baptize in the Holy Spirit". When anyone says that they were baptized with water they really mean they were baptized in water. In the same way when anyone says they were baptized with the Holy Spirit they really mean they were baptized in the Holy Spirit. When we are born again the Holy Spirit comes in us and when we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit we are brought into the Spirit and His realm.

1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

--- Acts 2:1-4

This was the first instance of anyone receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit and fire. Let us dissect what happened, to start with they which were one hundred and twenty that included the apostles and other disciple were in one place and one accord. On the day of Pentecost following the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ suddenly there came a sound from heaven filling the house were they were sitting. The whole house was brought into the spirit and the spirit realm. Suddenly there appeared cloven or divided tongues of fire that sat upon each of them. Each one was clothe and filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in other tongues as the Spirit gave the utterance. It was the activation of their spirit men into the spiritual realm. The baptism in the Holy Spirit and fire is a clothing upon of power from on high.

49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued  with power from on high.

--- Luke 24:49

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

--- Acts 1:8

37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given ;because that Jesus  was not yet glorified.)

--- John 7:37-39

The word "endued" is the Greek word enduo which means put on or clothed with or clothed in. The Holy Spirit comes upon us to clothe us with power and fill us with living water. The Holy Spirit is not only a person but He is also a presence and atmosphere. He filled the whole house that they were sitting in. The Holy Spirit filled the house and then the saints. He came in a powerful presence and atmosphere and then filled each person. Besides clothing them with His person and His presence and His power, the Holy Spirit gave them a supernatural utterance. They spoke in unknown tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

--- Acts 10:44-48

1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

--- Acts 19:1-6

Tongues: The Supernatural Prayer Language

20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

--- Jude 1:20-21

He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

--- 1 Corinthians 14:4

1For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

--- 1 Corinthians 14:14-15

The Apostle Paul said if I pray in an unknown tongue my spirit prays. The word "understanding" is the Greek word nous which was the Greek word for mind. Paul wrote we can pray with our spirit or with our mind. To pray in tongues is to pray with the spirit. It is the way to build up the spirit in the Holy Spirit. He that speaks in tongues edifies that is builds up himself. Tongues builds up the faith in the spirit. Speaking in tonques does several things.

  • It helps us enter the realm of the Spirit

  • It is a way to participate in the supernatural

  • It is the way build up the spirit man

  • It is a way to overthrow the soul

  • It is a way crucify the flesh

  • It is the way to take from the spirit realm into the natural realm (The Heavenly Transport System)

  • It is the easiest way to speak from the spiritual realm

  • It is walking in the Spirit

  • It is yielding to the Spirit

  • It is the way to live in the Spirit

  • It is the way to declare our unknown destinies (Mysteries)

  • It is the way to pray in agreement with God

  • It is connecting to the Holy Spirit

14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

---2 Corinthians 6:14-16

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according this purpose.

--- Romans 8:26-27
