The Lion and The Lamb

5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

--- Revelation 5:5-6

The Lord is the Lion and Lamb. The immature know Him as a lamb. The maturing know Him as the lion. The fully mature know Him as the lamb and the lion. The immature is the babes in Christ, the maturing are the children of God, and the fully mature are sons of God. He is Lord and Savior, the Lion and Lamb.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

--- Matthew 11:28-30

29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Knowing Him as Lion

14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

--- 1 Timothy 6:15

The word "potentate" is the Greek dunastes which means a holder of power and authority. Jesus is the holder of ultimate authority and power. He is king of kings and lord of lords. The maturing children of God recognize Him as Lion, the Lord of lords, and King of kings. The lion nature of the Lord is His stern side. It receives His austere nature, His firmness. He is Lion of the tribe of Judah. The characteristics of the Lion are

  • Austereness

  • Firmness

  • Sternness

  • Jealous

  • Protector

  • Conqueror

  • Ruler

  • Kingly

  • Warrior

Knowing His as the Lion and the Lamb

2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.

6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

--- Colossians 2:2-7

The fully mature recognize that Christ Jesus is Lion and Lamb. As we come into full mature we begin to recognize the dual nature of the Lord, His softness and His sternness. The true nature of the Lord is love. The love that is both kind and stern. The God who blesses and judges, a lion within a lamb and a lamb within a lion.
