The Natural Attributes of God

The natural attributes of anything is the characteristics or essence of the nature of a thing. There are five major attributes of the nature of God.

  1. Spirit

  2. Eternal

  3. Omniscience - All Knowing

  4. Omnipotent - All Powerful

  5. Omnipresent - All Present

1. Spirit

24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

--- John 4:24

17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

--- 2 Corinthians 3:17

35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

--- Luke 1:35

The fact about the natural attributes of God is He is spirit. The Father is spirit, the Son is spirit, and the Holy Spirit is spirit. Spirit is energy and matter that consist of a triad of sub-electronic energy particles. Everything is made of atoms, which made up of protons, neutrons and electrons. Protons are made of a triad of two positive charged particle plus one negative charged particle causing it to positively charged. A neutron is a triad of two negative charge particles plus one positive charge causing a neutral charge. Electrons are negative charged and circle the proton and neutron. The proton needs both the electron and neutron to create energy and matter. Neutrons bind the protons together while the electrons orbits the proton and neutrons creating elements.

2. Eternal

20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

--- Roman 1:20

God always was and is and will always be. God is the only one who is eternal and everything else had a beginning being created. God is self existent that is His existence is independent of any cause. Nothing caused Him to come into being He always was and will always be for He will never cease to be. God cannot and never will be able to age for He is infinite. God is the creator of time but He is Himself eternal. He can give eternal life because He has and will always exist. There are five facts concerning the Eternal Godhead.

  • He is self existent

  • He had no beginning

  • He has no ending

  • He will never age

  • Eternity to God is more natural than time is to us

3. Omniscience

9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,

10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

-- Isaiah 46:9-10

33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?

36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

--- Romans 11:33-36

God can declare the end from the beginning because He knows the beginning to the end. God knows every possibility and every options.. God has unlimited wisdom concerning His creation. The possibilities of His creation cannot go beyond the bounds of His wisdom and understand. At the same time His wisdom and knowledge knows no bounds. God uses power based upon what He knows. God values wisdom above power. because wisdom is needed to used power properly. Using power without wisdom is dangerous. The reason God does not always use His power is because sometimes it would be unwise to do so and it is impossible for God to do something contrary to wisdom and understanding. God cannot even be tempted to do anything contrary to what He knows. There is no end that God cannot foresee or foreknow therefore He could never go down the wrong path He can only do the right thing because His to wise to do otherwise.

4. Omnipotent

20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

--- Philippians 3:20-21

1 Then Job answered the Lord, and said,

2 I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.J

--- Job 42:1-2

He is able to subdue all things to Himself because He is all powerful. God has unlimited power over His creation, but He limits the use of the unlimited power in wisdom and understanding. The reason God does not use that unlimited power as much as we like is because He to wise to use His power the way we would want Him. God uses His power to love with and for love's sake. Jesus declares that all things are possible with God.

26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

--- Matthew 19:26

27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.

--- Mark 10:27

27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

--- Luke 18:27

A rich young man came running to Jesus and asked Him what he had to do to inherit life. Jesus response was that if He kept the commandments and the young man commented that he had so since his youth. The young man feeling that he had kept the commandments most of his life felt their was something he lacked. Jesus agreed with him that he lacked one thing he did need to give up covetousness, so Jesus instructed him go sell what he owned and give to the poor. The young ruler walked away sorrowful because he had many possessions that he loved more than God. Jesus seeing the young man walk away warned His disciples that it would be very difficult for the rich to enter the kingdom because of the humility that would required of them. The discipled were amazed that an upstanding young man could not enter the kingdom and they asked Jesus who then can be saved. Jesus replied that that which impossible with men is possible with God. With the Father all things is possible.

37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

--- Luke 1:37

The word "nothing" is two Greek words ou rhema which meant no word or no thing. Gabriel told Mary that she was highly favored of God and had been chosen to bring the savior into the world through her womb. She asked him how could that be seeing she knew not any man and Gabriel explained to her that the Holy Spirit would come upon her and release the power of God into her womb creating life that would be the son of the Highest. He then her that her cousin Elizabeth was pregnant in her old age because God will do and can do everything that he says.

5. Omnipresent

7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

--- Psalms 139:1-9

God is everywhere at the same time.
